Abstract:
We know when we conduct non-interventional studies that our results may be affected by bias and we often address this with qualitative statements in the discussion section such as “unmeasured confounding may be a limitation”. These kinds of statements are not particularly helpful for readers to understand much about the biases that may have been important, and to what extent they may have affected the results and conclusions of the study. In this seminar, I will introduce a range of quantitative methods aimed at investigating these biases. Quantitative bias analysis is underutilised in non-interventional research but is not that difficult to apply. Through a variety of applied examples, attendees will be motivated to see how these methods could be used in their own work.
