Congratulations to Professor Clara Lau – 2027 ASP Varro E. Tyler Prize

Congratulations to Professor Clara Bik-San Lau on being selected as the 2027 recipient of the Varro E. Tyler Prize by the American Society of Pharmacognosy (ASP), becoming the first Asian female awardee of this prestigious honour. The announcement was made at the ASP Annual Meeting held in July 2026.

The Varro E. Tyler Prize, one of the Society’s two flagship awards, recognises outstanding lifetime scientific contributions to the field of dietary supplements, with particular emphasis on botanicals and research in phytochemistry, pharmacognosy and pharmacology.

Professor Lau has over 30 years of expertise in the pharmacology of herbal medicines, with research spanning anti-cancer herbs and natural products, beneficial herb-drug combinations, and integrative medicine. She has published almost 300 peer-reviewed journal articles and has been recognised among the world’s leading researchers in her field.

The award will be presented at the 2027 ASP Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, where Professor Lau will deliver a featured award lecture reflecting on her lifetime achievements in pharmacognosy research and her contributions to advancing the scientific understanding of herbal medicines and natural products in promoting human health.

Congratulations to Professor Aviva Chow’s research team for receiving the prestigious Special Grand Prize – Prize of the Chinese Delegation and Gold Medal with Congratulations of the Jury at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2026. The awarded project, a nose-to-brain nanopowder nasal spray, was designed for early intervention in ischemic stroke. This innovative first-aid approach harnesses nanotechnology to deliver neurotherapeutics via the nasal pathway, with the aim of offering immediate protection for stroke patients. This invention holds game-changing potential to enhance quality of life and reduce the healthcare burden worldwide.

The exhibition showcased over 1,000 inventions from 35 countries and regions, providing a platform for sharing technological advancements and encouraging international collaboration.
